His Final Season....For Now

By Stuart McLaren

The 2nd season of The Only Team in The Bible saw the site take pretty much the same shape as the previous season, with just one big HTML file for all reports, but added another page, rumours.html, were I reported on all the juicy snippets of information I had picked up. On the filed, it was a season of 2 halves, until January, Queens were relegation certainties, but once Rowan Alexander as sacked in January (hooray!) Queens went on a run which would have won them the league if it had started then, to finish 4th under the player/managership of George Rowe and Ken Eadie.

1998/1999 - A Season of Two Halves

The first half of the season was an absolute disaster, with Queens slumping to 2nd bottom of the league, well adrift of the rest, until Rowan Alexander was given his much deserved jotters (he'd also taken us onto the front pages of the National press for all the wrong reasons) in mid January.

George Rowe and Ken Eadie took over as player managers, and in the 17 games they took charge of, would have won the league if it had started then, as Queens went on to finish 4th in the league once again.

For the first time I held a 'Player of The Year' vote, which was won by Derek Townsley, his final award for Queens as he left for Premier League Motherwell. Also heading to the SPL, with Aberdeen, were Jamie McAllister and Derek Lilley.

In those early days, the site was basically just one page with a report done on each game I was at. Click on the reports link below to read them.

For the first time, there was also a 'rumours' page, and having a quick read of it as I prepared this page, I have to say it was quite interesting!

I'm working on building a historic data base of players, click on the Squad link to see any I've already done for this season.

Click on Fixtures to see Queens results for season 1998/1999.
